I Work as web development officer for the website: NCVO-National Council for Voluntary Organisations, a charity that give voice and support to civil society. Previous to that role, I worked for 2 yeas as web editor at NCVO, and for 2 years at a dump (reuse and recycling centre and household waste) as Environmental development officer focussing on waste minimisation, waste education and recycling. This included lots of project management and field work as well as web work to raise awareness on these topics.
David Kane, from NCVO research team posted something on the subject on his blog:
What's the carbon footprint of the voluntary sector? 19th October 2009

I just found some info about citizen engagement that might be of interest.
