The DWP’s proposals for reforming the welfare system are a bit of a mixed bag. Some good, some bad, and some missing the point.
We face a lot of really difficult problems, but reform of the welfare system is not one of them. When you understand the problems, most of what needs to be done is remarkably straightforward.
What if we were to forget about the politics for a moment, and just concentrate on working out what needs to be done?
