As O2 becomes the second mobile operator to announce that it will give 100% of the value of text donations to charity – Vodafone announced on 6th July – what does this mean for SMS as a way to fundraise?

On the 9th June I ran NCVO’s first e-conference, as part of Participation for Change.

Participation for Change is a partnership project between organisations in the UK, Poland, Estonia, Germany and Slovenia and has been funded to encourage greater links and information sharing between organisations in those countries.

For many organisations, making the best use of the most basic ICT can be a struggle, let alone starting to think about how they might use social media tools. The reality is that with more and more information and discussions online, those that don’t engage are likely to miss out.

I think it’s really interesting how Obama and his administration have continued to use technology to stay in touch with the American people. They have said that they want to establish a system of transparency, public participation and collaboration.

On the day of the inauguration, use of sites such as Flickr, YouTube, Twitter and chatter on blogs peaked. The day after the event there were already over 80,000 inauguration related photos on the web.
