I agree with Emma, I think it might be due to a lot of organisations realising their funding is about to become a lot more uncertain and that recruiting a fundraiser may be a wise investment. Who knows, maybe a lot of these organisations never had anyone in a fundraising specific role before and feel now is the right time to recruit one...?

On a different note, NCVO published a Voluntary Sector Skills Survey back in 2007 and sure enough, fundraising was high on the list of what voluntary sector employers considered to be 'hard to fill' vacancies. The survey also identified that the main reason vacancies were hard to fill was down to a lack of specialist skills. Maybe employers are having difficulty finding fundraisers who meet their requirements?

We need your help to develop a national set of standards that accurately reflect your role as a campaigner.

The UK Workforce Hub, in collaboration with a steering group of campaigners, is developing a new set of National Occupational Standards for Campaigners in the voluntary and community sector.

We want to make these standards as relevant and useful as we can. We want to check that both the content and the way that we actually produce the standards will work for you.

If you’re a campaigner – or if you have a keen interest in campaigning – it’s easy to get involved. You can give your feedback during the three month consultation phase in one of the following ways:

  • By attending our consultation events: consultations are taking place in May in each of the UK countries.
  • By phoning or emailing the consultants with your comments
  • By reading the draft standards and completing a questionnaire.

The consultation will be running between 2 March and 2 June 2009.

For more information about the new standards, and to book a place at one of the events, visit www.ukworkforcehub.org.uk/cnos.
