Interesting. The dark matter concept reminds me of the sub/pre-conscious stuff Malcolm Gladwell talks about in 'Blink' - the sum of our experiences instantly guiding our reactions to people, places, situations.
Jess you were right - there are now several good examples out there since the manifestos were released. As well as the reliable NCVO service, Mark's Skills Third Sector briefing is an excellent summary.
LVSC's policy pages also has a quick three page digest of The Big Society and NCVYS have just published something comprehensive on the three main parties too - see www.lvsc.org.uk and www.ncvys.org.uk - although I should declare an interest...
I'm also a very big fan of the five pledges from the Directory of Social Change - lucid, concise, well-argued and available here:

Hi - can anyone direct me to any good policy briefings analysing the major's parties positions towards the VCS? Information seems to come from many different sources, manifestos seem to be being published in stages or drafts...
Has anyone in our sector tried to pull it all together?
My old organisation (London Voluntary Service Council) had an excellent briefing on the Conservative Green Paper -
(available at http://www.lvsc.org.uk/files/100601/FileName/PolicyBriefing36-ConservativePartyPolicy.pdf)
but that was produced in April 09 and probably needs revisiting now.
